Kulkas and others,
I am avoiding my accounting homework and it made me wonder, what is the worst class you have ever taken and why?
A gathering place for Kulkas and those who were once Kulkas but due to unfortunate circumstances have had to accept life's curve ball and begin going by some other name.

Believe it or not, drivers ed for senior citizens. If one takes the class, the auto insurance cost is cut by 10 percent. This consisted of a thick book, (with large letters) and two 4 hour classes. Too many teachers read the stuff that the book in front of you says, or, even worse, ask people to volunteer to read it out loud. I admit we learned some helpful things about avoiding accidents, etc., but what an ordeal! Took me back to reading class in 2nd grade.

Wow. Thats awful! I am currently in a class called the Art and Craft of Teaching, and I must say it is AWFUL. First day we walked in, and had to sit in assigned seats with our assigned froggy name tags and our assigned groups. I feel like I am in 1st grade. For EVERY classwork assignment, we talk about something or watch a video, do a 5 minute quick write (I HATE quick writes - they do absolutly nothing for me), then discuss it in our groups, then present to the class. This makes the class three times longer than necessary, and makes us feel like we are little kids. Oh - and lets not forget - the class meets from 5:30 - 10:00Pm
Sorry about the duplication above. Who knows? It does illustrate nicely the problem of boredom.
And Eesmall, how can it be that a class to show teachers the best way to teach is so uninterestingly taught? On the other side, I acrtually had a class at UCLA of over 200 students, and the teacher was great. He had us write short notes every week about anything in the class, which he personally answered every week. If a bunch of us missed a question on a test, he would tell us that he obviously had not taught it well, and give us a new explanation. I still remember ithe class, and I graduated in 1950.
That's nice, grandma. In my economics class last semester, if we all missed a question on a test he would fail us.
Whoa - what a difference! How did you do in the class?
I think that your teacher Sage really shows what makes up a good teacher. Its funny - in the classes they teach us, we are told that a test should be used for one purpose - to evaluate your effectiveness as teacher. If you give a test and everyone is able to answer most of the questions, well then you can be assured you really taught them what you wanted them to know. And yet, in these very same classes, I am required to take tests based on what I can teach myself, and my entire grade rests on that. Very contradictory. I have had some really great teachers as well, ones that personally sent me notes to say they hoped I was feeling better after a long sickness (or surgery as the case may be) and those are the ones I try to remember as I become a teacher myself.
I got a C in that class. Lowest grade so far, but I was glad I passed. I think it may have had something to do with the fact that my professor is good friends with my coach.
Ok, kidding, I worked really hard.
ok - Spanish 101+102 in College. Two semesters back to back. To set the stage - I have always been aweful at learning other languages, shoot I barely get by with my own! Anyways the teacher did not like me and made it evident from the beginning. With-in the first week, everyone in class knew my name because of him constantly calling me out in class to answer obscure questions. He seemed to get a kick out of watching me squirm there with a dumb-struck look on my face. "duh?" "que pasa what?" "I like mexican food...does that count?" He was relentless! I even had a meeting with him -"dude - stop calling on me so much in class - it's stressing me out!" He persisted worse than before. Short little weasel he was. I think he didn't like me because I was better looking and much taller than him. What's worse is I told him that! No, I didn't. But I wish I could have done something to get back at him though. What a jerkface.
Ya, and accounting...only class in college I failed. Class from Hell!!! I have a new respect for accountants, because I know couldn't be a good one to save my life.
At work we often take technical classes to gather new skills, trying desperately to keep up with technology as it marches on.
Imagine a class called "Planning, Administering and Maintaining a Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain." We're talking about computer server operating systems. -- a subject drier than the Gobi itself. Now imagine trying to stay awake as they explain the entire operating system in five days. Now imagine that class with a teacher who's trying desperately not to let on that he doesn't know the subject, and spends the entire week reading the textbook to us word for word. He can't answer any questions because he really doesn't know much about what he's teaching aside from having read the book. Now imagine that he thinks he's got a side job as a radio disc jockey, trying to put catchy emphasis on the technical text he's reading. As if that's not enough, the room lights are dimmed so that he can display overheads, which are the diagrams for the text he's reading. I just tried to fall asleep with my head straight up. I snore more quietly that way.
We got stuck with him for two different classes like this before our manager told the education contractor that we wouldn't book any more classes if he was teaching them.
Good grief, that is the worst one so far. 5 days?
My senior driver's ed instructor could have taught the fellow a few things.
I think I snore more loudly when I have my head up. I did, however, fall asleep in a science class after a terrably trying week...which wouldn't have been so bad, except we had a special guest speaker in the class....and I woke myself up when I jumped in my sleep and knocked over everything that had been sitting on my desk. Oops.
eesmall, I can picture the lecturer saying "Oh, sorry, did I wake you up?"
When, I was in Thailand, I often was in computer technical classes. Yes, the technical classes were very difficult and boring like Uncle Matt said, but the worse part was the speaker was a Native English speaker. It is similar to going to any class where the whole class speaks only spanish. All I recognized would be the technical terms and a few other words. The scariest part would be having the speaker point at you and asking you a question or your opinion about the topics in front of your colleagues and your boss. All I could do was answer with a smile, " Hmm it is very good approach", while I understood nothing. It was really scary and awkward.
Anyway, we come back to Akulka 's question, I hate math and accounting classes the most but that is my work now. One of my jobs is to be responsible for our financial matters. I have learned that when it comes to your money, you don't want to loose even a penny.
I think my least favorite two classes ever have been economics from last semester and accounting from this semester. Considering that, let's hope someone else is in charge of my money.
Perhaps Stinky would take it on?
