Hey, Cyclops54

Kulkas
So you are planning a 500 mile bike trip this year. I imagine there are several parts of you which will be sore as a result. Maybe Uncle Matt will share some of his experiences on his bike trips. Lord only knows what motivates you two.

Yes the news is true. I begin my strenuous training this next week! I'm very excited and I know it will be such a great adventure! The motivation? Well, just to say I rode from San Francisco to Santa Monica. The second reason is the guy who invited me is building a special bike just for me, one that I could never afford right now. Basically he is just giving it to me because he used to Be sponsored and has too many laying around. So its a chance to get a really sweet bike that I wouldn't get if I didn't go. I really want the experience that that kind of trip yields. So ya, call it crazy, but I always want to live life to fullest.

I sure don't call it crazy. It is a wonderful ambition, and one you can achieve by your own dedication.

Neill's son Mark rode his bike from Alaska to Mill Valley to be with his Dad on Neill's 60th birthday. He got on the boat from Juneau to Washington State, and rode from there. The toughest thing was avoiding lumber trucks on the road. I forget how many days it took him and of course he did it unaccompanied. And he made it!

Wow and double wow.

Cody, I'm impressed. I imagine you're already a cyclist, otherwise you wouldn't be taking on such a long trip or have a want for a nice bike. I picked the sport back up a couple of years ago and have really enjoyed it.

But 500 miles! What a great adventure that's going to be. California has some great highways and back roads. I'm jealous. I wonder, how many days are you going to take to do it and how many people will be riding together?

Then there's Mark who "rode his bike from Alaska to Mill Valley." Dear God in Heaven, I don't even know what comment to make about that. Incredible to be sure.

I've read several articles about people who have pedaled across the country. It's an interesting thought, but you know, there's the deserts of Nevada; the Sierra, Rocky and Appalachian mountain ranges; and a lot of really flat, boring countryside in the plains. A cross country trip has potential to be a real dog.

But these two adventures down the West Coast, really sound interesting. I'm no spring chicken, and probably won't do anything bigger than a ride across North Carolina, but it sure is fun to think about.

Cody, I'd like to hear more about the project as you prepare for it, and after you're done.

Hey, one more thing. This guy who has too many bikes -- if he really has too many lying around and wants to get rid of some, I'd be happy to take some equipment off his hands. You know, as a service to another rider and all that.

gee whiz, Uncle Matt, would you really be kind enough to do that?
